Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is similar to the first game, so it's a hack-and-slash action game with a focus on brutal difficulty. It's still easy to play, but it's disappointing that my favorite of the three games is the least polished. ![]() It leaves the game looking aged in a way that even a fellow competitor like Devil May Cry 3 doesn't. They don't look that impressive, and there doesn't appear to have been a ton of work put into cleaning up the visuals beyond the basics. ![]() Since the core game is based on the Vita version, I can't help but feel like that includes some of the visuals. Visually, Ninja Gaiden Sigma isn't particularly impressive. It's a perfectly fine version of the game, but it has seen no real touch-ups. Plus has all of Sigma's features in addition to a new Hero mode that lowers the difficulty, adds the ability to equip accessories to change your character's appearance, and includes a pair of dual katanas that can be used as a weapon. The original Sigma was a modified version that was released for the PlayStation and included some polish and new weapons, but it also lacked some of the bonus features found in Ninja Gaiden and its original re-release, Ninja Gaiden Black. Ninja Gaiden in the Master Collection appears to be based on the PlayStation Vita version of Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus. The overall balance is a little worse than Ninja Gaiden Black, which was the original updated port, but it seems like Sigma is the version that we'll see from now on. The game occasionally veers into the cheap, especially with some of its boss fights, but for the most part, it feels like a fair game and rewarding experience. More often than not, you'll know exactly why you died, and it was because you overextended, mistimed a counter, or otherwise screwed up. The combat mechanics are a blend of Devil May Cry action and fighting game mechanics with an emphasis on parries, grabs and defense while baiting openings. You can struggle through five hard rooms, die, and return to your last save point to try again. Ninja Gaiden Sigma, despite being arguably the easiest version of the original game, will still chew you up and spit you out if you give it a chance. This is no less true now that it was before, and the series does not hesitate to punish you. Perhaps the biggest selling point for the Ninja Gaiden series was that it focused on telling you to "get gud" long before Dark Souls hit the market. Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection combines three titles into one package: Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, and Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge. It's a fast-paced action series that borrows ideas and concepts from fighting games, rewarding players for razor-sharp gameplay and mastery of gameplay mechanics. At first blush, the gameplay has a lot in common with Devil May Cry, and the two franchises had something of a "Sonic and Mario" rivalry. Players take on the role of master ninja Ryu Hayabusa as he inevitably ends up fighting scores of evil ninjas, evil soldiers, and extra evil demons. As a franchise, there's a similar play style between all of the Ninja Gaiden games. ![]() Simple Cell will then honor the manufacturer's warranty or refund the product. ![]() I adored it when I played through it for the first time its style of storytelling was unlike anything before it, and so many little moments made it such a memorable experience. Again, if you love the universe of Half Life (and Portal by later extension), definitely give this game a try, you will not be disappointed!ĩ0% PCHalf-Life was the breakout hit that put Valve Software on the map. ![]() Being an “expansion” on Half Life, that is to be expected I suppose, but it really does deliver an excellent experience while only being around half the length of the base game. Some of the new aliens are also quite spongy and use a lot of ammo to kill, but if you like that sort of thing you may find it as a positive! All in all this is a very solid game. Namely, it is much stingier with health pickups so you’ll really have to think through your encounters. I really have no complaints either with this game, though I would say it’s much more difficult than the first. You will even get to experience events from the first game in different spaces and see different people’s reactions to the chaos. These new aliens are an entirely new race as you can find out through some external reading, and there are even more human enemies too. There are also a plethora of new aliens to learn and fight against while exploring some never before seen areas of the Black Mesa facility. Additionally, you will find some other troops a few times who can help you clear areas and are quite competent for 1999 AI teammates, while sometimes healing you if you find a medic. Your arsenal is mostly the same as Gordon Freeman’s, however, you do have some new things, such as a lizard-like alien that spews toxic sludge at foes and a gun that teleports you to Xen for health and ammo refills! Those slight charges made it quite interesting without overhauling the formula you grew to love over the first game. Your helicopter gets taken down as you’re entering the Black Mesa perimeter, and everything goes down hill from there. In this game you play as one of the military personnel you see throughout Half Life 1, Corporal Adrien Shepherd. The controls and design are the same as that now-classic game and while the story over all may not be as good as the first game, there is still a lot of fun times here. On the outset, if you enjoyed Half Life, you certainly will enjoy this game a whole lot. Opposing Force is very derivative of this experience but this is most definitely a positive, not a detractor. I guess it's tradition that this one isn't any different.ĩ0% PCHalf Life was a ground breaking FPS game with an amazing story and universe it created to boot. I still have gripes with it's latter sections, but I have similar feelings about most Half-Life games, dipping quality here and there. Enough enemies and weapons are introduced to make it feel new, and the same sort of level and game design is present to keep it familiar. It's to the extent that I consider this game to be an almost direct accompanying piece to it. The same endearing style that HL1 has is carried over pretty faithfully here. If I have tons of weapons and ammo, I need more enemies to fight to make it challenging, but fighting tons of enemies in a row with Half-Life's mechanics gets a little stale for me. I don't dislike the gunplay or anything, but I'm not exactly sure I get *how* I'm supposed to enjoy the more straightforward fights in this game as divorced from environmental and resource limited circumstances. ![]() By that time the weapon choices have expanded further and people who enjoy Half-Life solely for the shooting parts will probably have more fun with it than I did. The latter half of the game features a lot of firefights with big aliens and bullet spongy black ops guys. I wish some of the high stakes puzzle elements and shorter encounters could have stayed around longer. But there's something about a soldier being lost in the chaos of a collapsing research facility overrun by aliens and black ops that better captured that background storytelling thing the Half-Life games do than in the first. I'm "something of a scientist myself" and want as little to do with the military in real life as in fiction. It's funny that I identify more with this protagonist than in HL1. It wasn't until the more action heavy latter half that my praise wavers a bit. The initial few missions in particular are really well done. 60% PCHalf-Life 2 is my preferred version of the series, and yet parts of this one worked for me in ways Half-Life 1 failed to. ![]() Your photos will now be downloaded to your computer. Rally driving is more like crossing through a narrow tunnel with great speed, with traps on both sides of the track. You cannot learn the track by heart, you will not remember all of the brake points and you will not have wide curbs to use on the sides. While in the latter you absolutely do not want to drift sideways in the corners, in rallies light drifts and counter-steering are essential to quickly complete tracks. We advise how to pass rally stages quickly and without accidents.ĭriving a rally car on a loose, gravel surface differs significantly from asphalt races. ![]() You will also learn the basics of the rally driving and how it differs from races. They are responsive and fully adjustable. In this section of the DiRT Rally 2.0 guide, we have included information about car control using different controllers, as well as info about help and assists available in the game. The pedals have metal construction and quite a weight to them. You really need to hold it in your hands to experience it. There really isn’t much else to say about that – it’s just better than anything else I have tested. The build quality of the wheel is superb. It becomes an additional sensory input in addition to your eyes. I hit some pretty heavy weights every day and I can tell you, this baby’s got some kick! As I said earlier, that is an important factor for rally sims since you need the force feedback to guide your response. A meaty 40-watt brushless motor delivers enough torque to make your arm sore. The best feature of this wheel is the solid force feedback mechanism. Thrustmaster have done their best to staying true to the original inspiration behind this wheel, and it shows. That is not surprising considering it is indeed a scale replica of an actual Sparco wheel that is used in competitive motorsport. The Thrustmaster TS-XW is one of the best premium racing wheels that you can buy. ![]() Overall, the G920 is definitely my top recommendation for the Dirt Rally 2.0 unless you have cash to burn. But that happens with every single pedal set out there. They do require some support if you plan to use them on a non-carpeted surface as they tend to slip. The pedals are decent with good resistance as you would expect form each pedal. The clamps are super solid – just make sure you have a sturdy enough desk or other mounting option. The force feedback is pretty good and only the very expensive wheels that quite twice as much beat it in that category. The wheel is very accurate with precise movement control. It also uses other high quality materials like Anodized Aluminium, Leather, Steel, Glass-Filled Nylon, Polyoxymethylene Thermoplastic. The wheel feels premium with smooth leather and a very satisfying grip. Yes, I take care of my peripherals but credit where credit is due! It still looks brand new! In fact, I even have a 20-year-old Logitech MOMO that is still in perfect condition. I have owned my G920 for five years now and it just keeps on giving. There is a lot of competition in the mid-range but the Logitech G920 blows everyone out of the water. So that will a be major consideration in the following reviews. You really need to be able to feel the gravel or the turn in order to execute a perfect maneuver. But for rally games, force feedback plays a major role. Most of the factors are what you would expect – build quality, durability, smoothness of the controls etc. What matters for rally steering/ racing wheels? Those devices just don’t provide the type of analog, granular input that is necessary to make perfect turns in Dirt Rally and Dirt Rally 2.0. This sim is not meant to be played with a gamepad or keyboard. In order to be even remotely competitive though, you should think about getting a quality steering/ racing wheel. ![]() Personally, I prefer rally over track racing so there’s that too. Dirt Rally 2.0 provides the perfect combination of skill-based gameplay, realism, immersion and credibility. The Dirt Rally games are undoubtedly the best rally games out there today, especially if you are into VR. The French military strategy was further weakened after the death of Chad’s president Idriss Déby in clashes with non-Islamist forces in 2020. Up to 5,000 troops have been deployed, working with United Nations (UN) troops and other Western special forces, but it has had limited impact.Īrguably this is only the latest in a series of military interventions against Islamist forces which have ended up acting as a ‘praetorian guard’ to unpopular and predatory governments such as those in Mali, and failing to address the root causes of violence. The French intervention in the Sahel since 2013 has been characterized as an effort to stabilize a troubled former colonial region, and is mainly a military effort to defeat these Islamist groups. Rethinking the response to jihadist groups across the Sahel ![]() Repeated coups – in 2012, 20 – and a history of repression of the northern population, have done more to expand jihadism than the military strength of Islamist groups such as Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), Islamic State (IS) in the Greater Sahara, Ansarul Islam, or the Movement for Oneness and Jihad in West Africa. Mali offers a clear example of how structural failings, poor governance, and weak state security have been the main cause of the growing insurgency, and long predate the ‘war on terror’ narrative. The line between jihadism, organized crime, and local politics is often blurred and further complicated by global factors such as climate change, population growth, and migration. However, insurgent groups are often riven by internal conflicts and motivated just as much by local objectives as by any international jihadist mission. Insurgent groups are often riven by internal conflicts and motivated as much by local objectives as by any international jihadist mission. This was true of the French authorities in Algeria, the British in Kenya during the 1950s, the Rhodesian government during the 1970s, and the South African Apartheid regime. In Africa especially, colonial powers labelled independence movements as terrorists to retain power, demonize their adversaries, and justify the use of extreme retaliatory measures. But it is also true that, throughout the 20th century, weak, corrupt, and colonial regimes branded opponents ‘terrorists’ as a way to delegitimize their objectives. On many occasions it is the right description for obscene acts of violence perpetrated against civilians, such as the June 2021 attack in Burkina Faso. The causes of violence against civilians in one African nation differ greatly from another – just as in Europe the UK’s history of sectarian and religious violence is different to that of Serbia’s. Third, there are no easy, universal reasons for the roots of terror in Africa, the world’s second largest and most populous continent. ![]() This habit can create problems as designating insurgent groups as ‘terrorists’ makes it much harder for governments to de-escalate conflict and negotiate peaceful settlements with insurgent groups. Second, the term is often applied by western policymakers attempting to impose order on fluid, highly-factionalized situations.
